The house is about six miles from the village of
Entraygues-Sur-Truyere, which is a very pretty village on a river with
a medieval centre, a castle, a bank, post office, small supermarket, a
few cafes and restaurants, the usual collection of butchers bakers and
ironmongers, a campsite, outdoor swimming pool and an infant and
primary school. It is also well-known as a friendly place.
For a big supermarket and building supplies you go to Espalion, about
half an hour's drive away. Rodez, with Ryanair flights from Stansted
is an hour and a half.
The house is in a U shape, with one third being the house (renovated)
and the other two thirds are barns which are solid but which need
complete renovation if you want to live in them. There is a courtyard
in the U which faces southwest, has a gorgeous view and gets the most
amazing sunsets.
We have laid all the pipework for central heating,
including underfloor heating in the kitchen - a boiler and radiators
need to be put in. For a summer house, it's fine as it is. There is
a big open fire in the living room.
The garden is on a fairly serious slope but there is a flat bit at
the bottom which the estate agent assured us is 'piscinable' ie you
could get a swimming pool on it .
The house is part of a hamlet called Encassagnes, which is marked on
large-scale maps.
The house has double glazed windows, roof insulation, electric hot
water tank, bottled gas cooker, septic tank. A phone line comes to
next door.
