Pic de Bugarach - Armageddon

It is believed by some that Armageddon (or Doomsday), is coming on 21 December 2012, as the ancient Mayan calendar ends on that date.

It is also believed that the Pic de Bugarach, in the Aude department of the Languedoc- Roussillon, is an ‘alien garage’ and within its caves or ‘grottes’ the aliens are waiting to leave the earth on 21 December 2012, taking with them a select few humans, who will be spared from the end of human civilization.

According to ‘Nostradamus’ (a French apothecary) the vibrations of the mountain were ‘positive’ and visits to the Pic de Bugarach inspired both Jules Verne’s A Journey to the Centre of the Earth, The Raiders of the Lost Ark and Steven Spielburg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

There has also been talk of secret archealogical digs by the Nazis, the Israeli Secret Service (Mossad), flying saucers, ‘humming’ from the mountain and mysterious helicopter visits by Francois Mitterand, the late French President.

The Pic de Bugarach, or Pech de Bugarach (the highest point in the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains – 1230m) is located above the village of Bugarach. The village has 200 inhabitants and they are expecting an influx of approximately 10,000 believers and non-believers from around the world, in December 2012. The mayor has even called for assistance from the French Army.

Many believers have bought property at the foot of the Pic de Bugarach and in the surrounding area. Others are staying in local hotels and gites.

Whatever happens in 2012, the Pic de Bugarach is certainly an interesting place to visit.

The apartments are only a 10-15 minute drive (or a scenic walk) to the Pic de Bugarach– you are advised to make any reservations for the run up to 21 December 2012 quickly, as there is a lot of competition for accommodation this near to the site.
